Name is Lee. Located in Lubbock. Just purchased a used, like new, 2010 14RB and brought it home last night. Previous owner is going to get a KZ toyhauler but needed to sell this one first. Have owned many popups in the past and presently also own a Fleetwood Niagra popup (yeah, one of the big ones). Will use the popup when more than three go and the KZ when it's just a couple of us. Long time lurker and student of the forums, partilculalry the mod section. Already plan to duplicate many the great things you folks have done to your Sportsmen. I noticed last night on the way home a lot of squeaking from the trailer. Figure it's the springs. Any easy way to quiet it down a little? Ever put any lube on the springs? I tow with a 2010 Xterra. Already set up with Firestone air support bags, Ride Rite I think it's called. Also have electronic brake controller. I use a load equalizer with the Niagra but the 14RB seemed pretty happy with just an antisway on the home last night. I will probably take a couple of trips before deciding whether a load eqaulizer is needed. Wow, big difference in wind resistance between the popup and the 14RB. I look forward to participating in the forums. If anyone ever needs information about the two closest state parks from here, Palo Duro or Caprock Canyons, I'll be glad to help. Thanks, Lee

Welcome to the FORUM Lee. Hope that you will enjoy your "new" Sportsman Classic. It's a great little unit. I travel alone and have plenty of room, with all the amenities.

Can't say that I've noticed any unusual squeaking from the springs … but I will pay attention the next time I take to the road … in about 2 1/2 weeks. I also have the anti-sway bar and haven't had any problems. In fact, I only use it on a longer trip or when on the Interstate highway type roads.

Looking forward to hearing and seeing some of your modifications.

Thanks for all the welcomes! I picked up the trailer last night and packed it this evening for our first trip in it – tomorrow night. Yahoo. I wouldn't call it perfectly packed, more like just the stuff we'll need for an overnighter. I crawled under the trailer with a spray can of Dupont teflon wax based lubricant and sprayed the springs and spring brackets. Then jumped around in the trailer for about ten seconds to spread the lube and magic happened. It's now as quiet as can be. No campfire tomorrow night as most of the Texas State parks are under burn ban. Palo Duro looks full so may end up at Caprock Canyons. The only sheets we have that fit a full size bed are left overs from when our daughter was young. The sheets are Minnie Mouse sheets. Sure glad the wife will be there. Hard for a guy to explain why he's sleeping on Minnie Mouse sheets. I may have to shop for replacements before the next "guys trip." Thanks again for all the welcomes. Lee

Please keep us posted as to how long this spray remains effective.  If it works for quite a while, I'm sure some of us will want to know where to buy it!  Smile

Hi Lee,

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your new classic.  I see you have been sending us your heat up our way.  We topped out at about 96 yesterday and 92 today,  which is kinda rare up here in Wisconsin.  By the way, I have a nice mickey mouse comforter to go with your Minnie mouse sheets.  If you'd like, I'll send it your way! Flygal6. Minnie and Mickey together on the same bed? What would Walt think?Smile Wife and I went to Caprock Canyons in Quitaque. It was a rather quick trip since we bought the trailer on Wed and took it camping on Fri. The Minnie sheets had never been on the table/bed. Also had a full size mattress pad. When it was time to turn in we got ready to make the bed only to find that the mattress pad and the fitted sheet were both a little short. The 14rb bed must be longer than a regular bed. Wonder if they make longer double sized sheets? May have to use two flat sheets. Minnie did treat us to a great night's sleep with the a/c running all night. Sorry about sending the heat your way. We did keep some here. 104 yesterday and 103 predicted for today. But it's dry heat – gag.

I put two foam pads, similar to what you use when backpacking, on top the dinette cushions before we put on the mattress pad. The bed was very comfortable. My last hardshell trailer was a 13' Scamp (I loved that trailer but no on else in my family even liked it). I thought I was in heaven with the long bed in the 14rb. The Scamp required the person sleeping near the end to assume a fetal position because of the curvature of the end of the trailer.

Thanks for the comforter offer. I may resort to the simple, easy and quick method of making a bed in a trailer – throw on two sleeping bags.
