Hi we just ordered a Spree Escape 16BH and am very excited to get it and take our first trip.   Have had an assortment of tent campers over the years.  Really looking forward to the aditional comforts that these trailers provide.

We live in Colorado so we have lots of great camping nearby but also plan to do some serious road trips as soon as we get the trailer.

As I mentioned in the Modification section, we do a lot of primitive camping starting in late April and going into mid-November.  Those tent trailers get real nippy as you approach December in Colorado.

This website has been extremely helpful so far, and I have picked up some really good information so far.

I have the Classic 16BH and it has been a good little trailer.  I modified mine by removing the top bunk but use the bottom bunk.  It's great when I'm soloing because I don't have to make up the bed.

What are you towing with?  I would be interested how it all does in the mountains.

I will be towing with a 2010 Toyota 4Runner with the 4.0L V6.  Rated to tow 5000 lbs.   It worked fine with my Fleetwood tent trailer and, according to the specs, it weighed about 500 lbs less than the 16BH.  I realize that I will have more wind resistence.

When towing in the mountains, I have learned to be patient, some of those passes are really steep and you just can't maintain your speed.

What other modifications have you made to your 16BH?

Check out the Mods section – I have posted pictures.  I've made 2 other rather major mods.  My unit came with a 5K BTU wall-mount A/C that just wasn't quite enough oomph for the Texas summers.  So we upgraded on our own to a 6500 BTU unit.  I would have gone higher but it would have required more modifications to the unit.  And evidently KZ agrees that the 5K wasn't quite enough, because now they offer an 8K wall mount and 13.5K roof mount for the 16BH.

The other major mod is we made a new table that's about 6″ shorter.  The problem I had was trying to fit between the kitchen cabinet and the table sliding into the street side banquette, even worse trying to get out.  We made the new table instead of modifying the original because I was going to try and save the original in case we sold.  Well, I buggered it up right at the end of the project by resting it on the hinge end and pulling the hinges out of the table back – that particle board totally delaminated around the hinges.  So now the new table is the only table.  We extended the cleats to the end of the bench and have a 6″ piece of MDF that we use to fill in the gap when making the bed.  This actually strengthens the edge because it's fully supported on both ends and the triangle gap is inset that 6″.  Before we would really have to be careful when sitting on the edge of the bed that we sat close to the curb side.

And of course there have been lots of minor mods such as adding shelves to the closet.

My next mods on the list are as follows:

switch to LEDs in the lights

add a second battery

cut the access panel to the storage under the curb side banquette in half and support it.  It's a bear to get into that storage quickly between the cushions and the 54″ length of plywood.

Add an access door to the side of the curb side banquette so we don't even have to go through the top.

Add an access door to the storage under the bunk.  Yes, that's the outside storage bin, but that corner by the closet is a bear to get to from outside.

Thanks for the detail on the Mods.  I noticed that my 16BN was ordered with a 6000 BTU AC.  Have they recently changed from the 5000 BTU unit that yours came with?  Do you think that the 6000 will be enough>

Since you live in CO, I would think the 6K would be enough.  You don't have the humidity that we get along the coast along with the heat.  I only upgraded to the 6500.  And yes, I think they changed for the 2012 year with the 6K being the base unit.  Mine is a 2010.
