Just bought our first travel trailer, a 14RB. We got the base model as we didn't see the need of a microwave at this point (aka, wanted to save the money). The only thing that was not included was the awning which we think might be nice, but the dealer said he could add if we wanted. We pick it up in two weeks but between now and then we need to decide if we want it added or not. Can anyone give us opinions?

Congrats! I know how excited you must be, as I just bought my first (RK) Saturday myself. I got the model that had an awning but havent used it yet. I would imagine if you think you will eventually want one to get it now to save you the inconvience of taking your trailer in to add it and if they are ordering your trailer from the factory it will be factory installed instead of a dealership doing the work.I know before I bought the RK I was camping in a vw bus and I had bought a "first up" canopy that was free standing with screen and privacy curtains for about 100 dollars..I cant tell you how handy having an awning for shade was, although it was rather bulky to haul even though it folded up in a case on wheels it was still heavy to pack, But shade and in some cases keeping me out of the rain was nice to have. I would eventually like to have a front window and rock guard installed on my RK, but am concerned about the quality of the dealerhip doing it instead of factory installed, but thats just me. Again, congradulations on your new Trailer!!

Congrats on the new TT……you are going to just love it. Before DW and I purchased the 14RK, I suggested that we should not need an awning, but DW insisted we get TT with awning installed, based on her former and personal experiences, having instant shade is important……yes, I'm still learning.

I'll say that this is a really easy decision for you…. get the awning. I've had trailers and truck campers without and one thing that is nice is being able to sit outside while it's sprinkling out, keeping dry but outside, not soaking wet and miserable.
Plus the shade factor makes it well worth the money if you end up in a treeless area like a field.
I've installed them as an aftermarket item, save yourself some aggravation and let the dealer do it, as they know where and how everything fits right from the start. The first one I installed on a small trailer took me close to 4 hours because of all the parts and the "install in this position for the right side, reverse for left side" parts instructions.
I bought my 19BH as the full package from the factory, and the only thing I would recommend other than get the awning is change the small lightweight leveling jacks for heavier scissor jacks on all 4 corners in place of just the 2 the factory provide.
Good luck
