Today I flipped the axle on my 16bh to gain much needed wheel clearance. I ordered a set of axle/spring pads and welded 1/2″x 2 1/2″ bolts to them with coupling nuts so I ended up with the same basic thing Dexter sells in their flip kit. The whole job including welding, painting and undercoating the wheel wells took just under an hour and cost me about 15 bucks. Smooth sailing! The trailer sits about 5″ higher now so I have plenty of clearance and it sits level behind my van. I had the wheels balanced while they were off so the tires should last a little longer I hope. I also installed my Vortex fan in the vent over the kitchen area. It seems to work OK, although I thought it would draw more air thru the trailer. It sure cuts down on the natural lite coming in from the vent though, I dont know if the boss lady is going to like that. I may be relocating it to the bathroom vent. The next job is to cut out the side of the seat/ storage area in the dinette area and install a door so I have easy access to the stuff we keep under the seat. I had thought about cutting a hole on the outside and installing a door much like the rear compartments but it would be easier to do it on the inside, less likely to screw it up !! There is only a couple weeks left before we take off for the Pacific Northwest so I had better quit typing and start working, I will keep you informed on other things i do to it. See Ya, Mitch.

Sounds good Mitch, just a word of caution on cutting the panel out to fit the door. If you do that you need to reinforce the panel because it is a load bearing surface, consisting of the end of the bed area of the dinette. You could do the door from outside, but I would be leary of this as you don't know where all the electrical wiring is in the wall and the other thing is lack of studs for mounting the door, you would still need to reinforce the wall for the door to be attached on the edges.
I wouldn't worry about the light cutting back from the fan, I don't have one and the complaint was it was too bright in the morning when the sun hit the side and top of the trailer at 6AM in the morning.
Good luck

Matt, yea i was planning on framing out the seat end and buying a premade cabinet door from MENARDS or LOWES and hinging it at the bottom so it could be accessed from either inside or outside. That was how it was in the old Starcraft pop-up we had. Hopefully I can find a door on garbage day and save a bit of cash, people throw away some nice stuff. Anyways, the cheap little trailer is coming along nicely. Mitch.

Hi, Mitch and Matt
I might do something like that, too. Right now I'm using the right front under bench space for storage for stuff IU hope I will never need……2-1/2 ton jack and large block of wood to set the jack onto.
Tomorrow, we're off to a horse show and DW, Donna finally has a decent place to change into and out of her riding clothes. I'll be watching the dog and taking videos of the proceedings.

I use that storage space for stuff that I take out while setting up: dining tent, spare jacks, portable BBQ. I also have a plastic bin full of stuff that I will rarely use (the just-in-case stuff)

Hey Sportsmen, yesterday I framed out the side of the dinette seat and cut the hole open with a razor knife. I made the opening 12″ x 16″. All the 1×2 framing was screwed and gorilla glued so its there to stay, really stiffened up the seat end. I also made a cross brace for across the seat opening and I cut the 1/2″ plywood cover in "about half" so if I need to access the storage from above I dont need to remove the whole panel. Today I made the door from an unused pine shelf the I had laying around. I did a quicky stain job on it just to get it in , I will router it and restain after vacation. All in all I have 6 dollars in this project and it turned a hard to access storage area into somethimg that is usable, something that KZ should have done in the first place. I also glued rubber on the plastic feet on the refer, shimmed up the front edge of the refer area floor, added a short piece of wood under the hinge side of the refer door as the pad was barely hanging on to the cabinet and added a small loop bracket next to the snap on the cabinet face to keep the strap from constantly popping off when towing. Hopefully this will solve the problem of the fridge walking out of its space. My next thing will be adding an access door under the other seat so its easier to get to the water tank and heater and also one under the bunk beds so I can get into that space from inside if needed. This trailer is great , it alows me to modify it the way I want it, like a blank canvas!!! Bye for now, Mitch.

I'm interested in creating some doors in the dinette bench end and under the bunk as well. Mitch, do you have pics of your modifications?

I will pop out to the trailer tomorrow if the weather is decent and snap a few pictures of the work I did on the door. Mitch

Hi Mitch — Since you are having problems downloading pictures of your modifications I would suggest you refer to "Site Forum Announcments" forum. There is a post there by forum administrator titled,
"Adding Photos to Posts". It explains the routine for posting pictures to a post. As he/she readily admits, it's cumbersome but it does work. Hope you have luck with it — I'm looking forward to seeing your pics too. Good Luck. Ken
