The standard microwave on the 14 RB is OK, but a convection toaster oven may be of more value, e.g. baking (especially pizzas), toasting breads and muffins, etc., many items that a microwave can't handle. Question is the heat produced. Even being able to use the current microwave cutout and space, or even cutting the width an inch or two, what about heat? If needed one could line the cutout area with thin sheets asbestos, but would this suffice? Appreciate any experience doing this, or even your comments/observations.

A secondary thought for the forum administrator. This particular forum is great, but too general, too many posts. Possible to subdivide into more definitive/specialized catagories?

Thanks, all.

I just carry a small toaster oven for my baking /toaster needs. Wasnt asbestos outlawed? I would imagine if you installed a convection oven it would have to be vented out the side or roof?

Ditto Teaspoon's approach…we keep a small toaster oven in the base cabinet and just pull it out when we need it.  It's nice to have both.

And the reason this board is so great, we are all different.  I would rather be using the dutch oven outside for most of my cooking, including baking.  Make some great biscuits in the DO.

Thank you all. Good helpful comment. We've now opted for a toaster oven to be stored and brough out when needed, keeping the microwave in situ. Being a 14RB storage space is obviously limited (after living aboard our boat for 16 years we are pretty adept at finding nooks and crannies) and we'll probably stash it in the trunk under the couch seat, just behind the wheel housing. The model we ordered is Black & Decker TRO480BS, 9.6 pounds, $45.95.

And I agree, sandermr, this is a great board.
