I have read posts in the past regarding the quality of the tires that come standard on the Sportsmen Classic. As a safety issue, I really did not want to travel any distances if I had unsafe tires. Today I took my camper to a company called "Discount Tire". A reputable company that operates here in Tennessee. I have used them regularly for all my tire needs for several years on my family cars.
I asked them to rotate and balance the tires and also to give me their professional opinion of the ones that were factory installed.
- The factory installed tires are just fine. There is no need to change them.(They lost a sale with that information and I gained respect for them there).
- The factory did not balance the tires. They computer balanced both of them, checked the air pressure, rotated them. If the factory is not balancing these tires, we all might want to have them balanced ourselves.
- I asked them to look over the axle, wheels, etc. for safety issues. All looked good there!
- I also asked them about a larger tire for the 13 inch rim. They said that when I was ready to purchase in the future, to let them know, but the size that came with the unit was just fine.
They said I was good to go and should replace them every 4-5 years as a routine safety issue. We are planning on taking a big trip with the trailer in a couple of weeks and now I feel much more comfortable.
