having trouble keeping pilot lit on hot water heater. will light and stay lit if I leave it on pilot. When you turn it to on heater flame seems to suck the pilot out. Has anyone hd this trouble if so what did you do?

First of all, are you holding down the knob for the pilot light for at least a minute or two [experts feel free to correct me here!] to allow the thermocouple to heat up in order to keep the valve to allow the burner to stay on? Also, was there any wind — at all? I've struggled to keep mine lit in open area campgrounds when it's windy, but have never had a problem in treed areas or when it's not windy. I blamed the wind and not the equipment, but I don't really know for sure. As for as what to do about it — it seems to help to have the access door shut to block out some of the wind, but I don't have any better suggestion than that. I'm looking forward to the feedback from others! Stephen

Have you allowed the water to heat up? If so did the water heater shut down after reaching its operating temerature?
