Doing this today. Managed to spill bleach all over myself. Good times. My method was to pour 1/4 cup of bleach into my hose using a funnel and then I planned to hook up to the tank, turn the water on and go. Well the bleach just came right back up from the hose. What a mess. Next time I'll just mix a 1/4 cup bleach with 1 gal water solution and pour it into the tank before filling. Now it's all sitting in the plumbing for a few hours. Is there a drain on the tank or do I have to run the whole thing through the plumbing?

Yes, Marilyn, there is a drain on the fresh water tank…..located on a lower right side corner. Pull-up to drain…..push-down to stop draining fresh water tank. To sanitize complete, you should run through your entire system and let sit for two to three hours, before rinsing several times to eliminate the odor / taste.

I ran it through the system anyways so I could flush out all the plumbing. Is the drain accessible from under the trailer or from inside?

Lynne, drain is accessible from inside, next to one of the lower corners of the fresh water tank in our model 14RK……apparently a small gate-type valve. Pull-up to drain, push-down to stop draining through trailer flooring to underneath trailer.

Thetford has a tank cleaner and sanitizer. Just used it on my older Scotty. First you clean and run through all lines. Then you sanitize. After sanitizing you just dump your fresh water tank. Before using again make sure to let all faucets run a few minutes to remove remaining sanitizer.
If you have a wate heater then make sure it is in by pass mode for the cleaning and sanitizing.
Thetford product cost about $10 and you get enough for several applications. My camper was old when I bought it so I cleaned the fresh water tank 2x and then sanitized it. Just feel better about the lines and tank.
