Hi everyone,

Found this excellent post on another forum, (courtesy of R-pod Nation) whose little buggies are fairly similar to ours, with the exception that theirs came with the water heater bypass system was already installed by the manufacturer.  Please read and utilize whatever parts you feel are important.  I'm sure there a some of you guys out there smarter than I am and who can assist with pointing out where the differences are and make the correct suggestions to make it specific to the KZ Classic.  Hope this helps some.  (I will also post their winterizing guideline as well, for those of you who are interested.  I'm sure many of the same steps are basically the same and would also apply to our rigs)

How Do I Un-Winterize (Summerize) My r-Pod ??? (excuse the r-pod, remember this is borrowed information)

While you're dewinterizing, its a great time to sanitize your water system.
  • Using an RV drinking water hose, fill your fresh tank 1/3 full.  Add a mix of 3/4 cup bleach and 2 quarts of water (i.e. don't add straight bleach, dilute it first).  Complete filling your fresh tank.  The sloshing around as the water goes in will thoroughly mix the bleach solution.
  • Turn on your water pump.  One at a time, turn on your taps on the sink, the taps on your shower, and flush the toilet.  Run each until clear water flows.  Turn off your water pump.
  • Go outside and open your low-point drains and let pink stuff drain out.  Screw the caps back on the drains when its done.  Go back inside, flip the switch for your water pump and let it re-pressurize your system.  Turn on both taps on the sink to 'burp' out any air that may have entered through the low-point drains.  Turn off the taps.  Then, turn off the pump again.
  • Top off your fresh tank with more water.
  • Wait for four hours and let the bleach do its work.
  • Drain your fresh water tank (there's a plug on the bottom)
  • Using an RV drinking water hose, fill your fresh tank 1/3 full.  Add a large jug (about a gallon) of white vinegar to the tank (no need to dilute it this time).  Complete filling your fresh tank.
  • Turn on your water pump.  One at a time, turn on your taps on the sink, the taps on your shower and flush the toilet.  Run each one for 15-20 seconds (until you're sure that the vinegar-water mix is coming out).  Turn off your water pump.
  • Go outside and open your low-point drains and let bleach-water drain out.  Screw the caps back on the drains when its done.  Go back inside, flip the switch for your water pump and let it re-pressurize your system.  Turn on both taps on the sink to 'burp' out any air that may have entered through the low-point drains.  Turn off the taps.  Then, turn off the pump again.
  • Top-off your fresh tank with water.
  • Wait 12 hours (overnight).
  • Drain your fresh tank.
  • Using an RV drinking water hose, completely fill your fresh tank.
  • Turn on your fresh water pump.  One at a time, turn on your taps on the sink, the taps on your shower and flush the toilet.  Run each one for 15-20 seconds (until you're sure that the vinegar-water mix has been flushed out).
  • Turn the bypass valves for your water heater.  Start with the one in the middle.  The other two valves can be done in any order.  NB: your water pump will start pumping.
  • Turn on the hot water tap on your sink.  Let it run for 3-4 minutes as your water heater fills.  It'll spit air and make quite a racket.
Thats it!  You're done!  Dewinterized and sanitized!
Please note: DO NOT use the pressure-relief valve on your water heater to 'fill' your tank.  There is supposed to be a pocket of air at the top of the tank to accommodate expansion of the water while its heating.

Just a note to the above instruction.  per my AR-1 manual they list the Vinegar part as optional: "If a chlorine taste or smell lingers in the water, flush the water system with a solution consisting of 1 qt of vinegar to 5 gal of clean water.  re-flush as necessary."

Hope this helps, might shorten the process

Here's how I do mine, and how most RV dealers do it also. 3 parts.

Part One- Battery

1) Install Charged Battery in place, connect Black Battery Cable to Positive, White Battery Cable to Ground. Always install the Positive First.

Part Two-Wheels

1) Check Tire inflation and tread.

2) Remove tires and grease bearings, check brake shoes and magnet operation. Torque Axle Nuts and Lug Nuts to specifications.

Part Three-Water (Provided you use the double blow out method)

1) make sure low point drains are open.

2) make sure hot water heater is in bypass.

3) close drain to freshwater tank.

4) Fill Freshwater tank 1/2 full.

5) Close faucet in sinks, tub, shower.

6) Start water pump for 30 seconds watch water come out low point drains. Shut off pump.

7) Close low point drains, start pump, open faucets one at a time, flush toilet, run pump for 2-3minutes.

8) Check water, make sure no pink in it. If pink, repeat step 7 until clear. Refill Freshwater Tank if necessary.

9) Shut off pump, close faucets.

10) Open Fresh Water tank drain, drain tank.

11) Connect hose to city water fill. Do NOT Turn on Yet!

12) Re-tape Annode Rod for Hot Water Heater, install Annode Rod (this is also the drain plug), make sure pressure relief valve on hot water heater is closed.

13) Switch Hot Water Heater Bypass to normal, Turn on Water to City Water Fill.

14) Open Hot Water line at Sink, bleed air out, fill hot water tank.

15) Close Freshwater Drain and refill.

Part Four- Go CampingLaugh

note: the Double Blow Out Method for Winterizing is to Blow out the lines and low point drains with 45 pounds of Compressed Air, Flush all lines with Antifreeze, and blow out the antifreeze with compressed air, making springtime water de-winterizing a brief 5 minute operation.
