Just got my Sportsman Classic 13FK. Mentioned what I saw online regardiing the tires being bad.
He advised me I'm suppose to get new tires every 3 years. Even if I only do 1000 miles on them???
Have MILESTAR ST175/80R13. He also said all RV tires are made in Japan? Wonder how much is true. Also how often do the wheelbearing have to be greased. Want this trailer to last me
as long as God wants me around..First trip out with it is this week YEA!!!
Thanks
Nancy

Not sure about 3 years, but the mileage on RV tires is not anywhere near as important as the age. I would replace them at 5 years maximum regardless of the mileage. If I were taking a long trip, I would like to know the tires were at their best possible condition.
I will be replacing our original tires next spring after only 1 year. I want a different tire profile & a little better tire. With our expected trips this fall, they will have around 3000 miles on them when they get replaced.
Was told by a dealer to get bearings repacked once a year. My mechanic said to just check them & repack as needed. Not sure which is correct.

I had read that a lot of the trailer tires were made in China. I have the same "Milestar" tires and have not had any trouble with them. They have around 7000 miles on them in less than a year and are pretty well worn. I'll need to replace them in the near future, probably with the Goodyear Marathon tire.

Hi, Nancy!
According to Alex Nucci, owner of Gripston Tire (Texas), "six years is maximum life for an ST (Special Trailer) tire, as "dry rot" has commenced by then, making their usefulness questionable, especially at highway speed." When you purchase replacement ST tires, try to get tires mfg'd within the first six months…..reference DOT (Dept. Of Transportation) Date Code molded into each tire. The first two characters indicate week and last two characters indicate year of manufacture.
Goodyear Marathon ST tires are again being manufactured in USA and are regaining their reputation……for a while they were built in China and were reported to have delaminated and exploded at highway speeds. Another ST tire with a good reputation is the Maxxis, mfg. in Thailand (not China). I replaced our 14RK tires with three Maxxis ST185/80R13 and replaced valve stems with all brass stems. Also, balanced all three for a smoother tow.

I second the brass stems. Will be doing this when I get new tires. Those rubber ones are pretty sorry.
