According to The Good Sam Club' Highways magazine, the November-December, 2010 issue Member RVer's Tire Survey indicates a disproportionate number of tire failures…..32% for travel trailer tires (bumper-pull and 5th wheel) and half that for the self-contained motorhomes.

Based on findings of this survey, it looks to me that for every 50 TTs or less (on average) that use two or more tires, as many as 64% or 2/3rds can expect tire failures to occur……32 failures per every 100 tires at 2+ tires per TT.  Should you find an error in my logic…..let me know.

Has anyone in our owner's group experienced highway tire failure?

Good Sam's RV Owners' Advisory Council and others have suggested, as preventative for early tire failure:

1)  getting a TT wheel allignment;

2)  balancing tires;

3)  obtain individual weights for both the left and right side, as may be taxing tire load capacities;

4)  discontinuation of tires older than six years past DOT Code (manufacturer's date of manufacture).

Another after thought:

5)  maintain inflation to max PSI recommendation per tire load rating…..keep'em cool and less stressed.

6)  when replacing tires, move up to the next tire size to increase load capacity, if wheel well allows for.

What else?
