Hello all, Im new to the forum but am looking for some feedback on a purchase Im about to make, and just was wondering about your experiences.   As the heading says, it is a 19sb, but im also interested in feedback on a 14rb as well, the 19sb was offered by the dealer at a good price.  It is a 2011 and ive been quoted $9700 out the door.

My tow vehicle is a 2001 ford f150 xl, 4.2 liter v6.   I have a brake controller,  and a class III hitch, 7 prong hookup, and an auxiliary cooler as well.  I also just installed all new brake rotors and pads a month ago myself, stopping is excellent.  I used to tow a 1999 keystone cabana hybrid and sold it about 3 years ago, and hated to, but it was having a leakage issue, I fixed that and had a good sale.

Anyhow, Im looking for feedback from anyone pulling the 19sb or even your 14rb with your v6, Ive read many posts on here already and see that it sounds like pulling would be like it was with my old cabana.    It ran good on the flatlands (extremely flat where im at, literally no hills but a lot of wind).  My transmission is automatic by the way, id let it gear down on a hill, go down to about 50 mph but otherwise run easy at 60 to 65.    Most of my camping is at one place about 45 minutes away, and one little trip a year in may about 3 hours away.

Ive checked the dry weight, 2600 roughly on the 19sb.   My old cabana was 2700 dry, Id say I was towing about 3000 with gear or a few pounds over that.   I never load with water until im at the campsite and always travel without that.    My truck shows 5500 tow capacity.    I was just curious I guess on your experiences.   The trailer looks so much heavier to me than 2600, its so long.   But, thats why im here to find out.

Thank you so much for reading and anything at all is appreciated.

We are pulling the 19SB with a Dodge V6.  It is only rated to tow 3500 so your truck is already looking better.  Our camping agendas seem similiar.  We never travel with water in the tanks and plan to go to campsites within 2 hours of where we live.  We did go on one major trip – about 1200 miles round trip and plan to do that only once a year.  We had minimal problems pulling but we had no hills and no wind.  There was some swaying going on but hubby didn't seem as bothered by it as I was.  Some of the places we go here in the Texas hill country do cause us problems; however.  We don't have an automatic and we tow mostly in 5th gear – down to 4th on the hills.  One trip we took was especially steep and we had to go down to 1st just to make it up.  That was not a trip we plan to do again since it is about 5 hours away and it was one of those – "we just had to see it once" type of things.  I have to say that we are planning to get a V8 but not sure how soon that will be and feel perfectly fine about our ability to tow within the 2 hour radius of our home which is where the majority of our trips will be.  I don't regret getting the 19SB over the 14RB because I love the layout and the extra room but I do regret not having the V8 to pull it.  Having said all that keep in mind that your truck is rated to pull 2000 more pounds than ours so you should have less trouble than we do.  I am so happy with our choice and know we made the right decision even though we were aware that we could have some towing issues.  We travel very light and are very conscious about not going over our weight limits.  Most of the time we even take the table out to make more room and to drop some of our weight.  Hope this helps you make a decision.  Either way – happy camping!

ok thank you so much for the great info.   This is going to help a lot.     I do actually have another vehicle that we actually towed a camper with back in 1985 also, but its older now, it has a 305 v8, its a 1983 pontiac bonneville.  Wish i could swap the motors haha.

Yes I got the tow rating for my truck from the owners manual and the sticker that is on the drivers side door, I had to doublecheck it just to make sure.

Sounds like your 19 pulls just like my old cabana did.  I prefer the layout over the 14rb also, although a 14rb would be ok as well, but I like the idea of a full time bed.

ok well ill keep you guys posted   still deciding here.  thanks for the help

I pull the 16BH with the 4.6L V8 and it's noticeable on the hills and in the wind – watch the gas gauge go down, down, down!  But we also have 200 pounds of dogs and other stuff in the bed of the truck when we pull.

I'm going to upgrade in the next year to at least the 5.4 V8, if I don't upgrade to the F-250 3/4 ton.

Thank you sanders,  that helps as well.  I used to watch that gas gauge fall pulling my old cabana, it was 2700 dry, I think I had close to 3000 on it, but it pulled good.

Im still mulling it over right now.  My truck has 86000 on it and Im just trying to decide right now.  Im the only owner of it since it was new, so I know what ive got condition-wise on it.    I tend to load some in the back, it has a camper shell on it as well.   I used to use it to actually camp in, actually did that last year after I sold the cabana.

Again, that 19 foot trailer looks so long but still weighs in at 2600. Im very impressed with how they are able to do that nowadays.

The shell may actually work in your favor since it will help direct the airflow up and over the trailer.  I have a tonneau and it doesn't help as much.
