I have a tip to save propane…When I first set up camp I light the water heater until it heats up and turns off and then turn the valve to "pilot". In the southeast the pilot light alone is enough to keep water piping hot all the time. I will turn valve to "on" about 15 min. before taking a shower. Of course in colder climate it may only be warm in the morning but atleast it doesn't fire up over and over thru the night.
