Looking for opinions on Sportmen Calssic 19 BH.

Missed the opportunity to pick up a 2011 19bh for $8900 and went to look at a new unit but they were sold out. Sat and talked to the sales manager and worked out a deal to get a 2012 19BH with Full Package for $11545 out the door (i.e. including tax title and liscense, dealer prep etc.). All the info I can find indicates this is an excellent deal.

As I understand it the 2012 has the 8000btu ac, 2 way 4.6 fridge, built in microwave (as opposed to one on a shelf) awning, front window, and spare tire.

I am not new to RV's and realize I'm looking at the bare bones end of RV's but I have also been of the opinion that most RV's are trying to hard to be small homes instead of campers.

I have been reading through this forum and can find no compelling reasons not to buy , but am asking for any advice or insight you may have to offer before I make the deal.

   Thanks in advance

By the way, my RV experience includes two slide in overhead campers (a capri and a Lance) , a toy hauler (nice trailer lousy bathroom), many tent's (which I managed to air condition), a converted cargo trailer, and a 1947 KIT Road Ranger, which I rebuilt and would still be using but the lack of bathroom facilities has me and the love of my life at odds  :|

That does not include the trailers and campers of my youth, saw 40 states laying in the overhead looking out the front window, still think it's a shame they put dvd players in cars to keep the electronically savvy youth from being deprived their rights to media,,,,,, (though I do appreciate the silence spongbob can create with my nieces in traffic).

while I'm thinking about it I'll throw in, is the deal good enough not to wait for the next used one? are there reasons that the 2012 might be better, where there issues that have been resolved from previous years?

I don't know of any issues with earlier models per se.  One issue I've heard with the 19BH is that the tail can drag sometimes.  You should plan on having the axle flipped IMO.

Thanks Mike'

seems like an easy fix, though I'de have to haul it a time or two and see if its absolutly necessary,,,,

there is a lot of trailer past that rear axle though

Welcome Sean. I am taking our 14rb from the hot plains of Texas back up to the cool pines of NM this weekend. Hope your KZ makes you a lot of good memories. No complaints with ours. Has been great. Welcome to the forum.

Thanks :)

I have a number of events I attend every year that are the main reason for the purchase, but road trips are in my blood so I'll be looking at national parks and other fun places to visit, living in Houston any place not Hot in summer and fall is far but my truck will make light work of this trailer so the mountains are on my short list

You'll like it.  I towed my 14RB about 5000 miles this month, including mountains in Colorado and Montana, with a Highlander.  No problems.

I had the dealer add a vent cover, a MaxxAir fan/cover in the bathroom, and a hot water bypass kit.  Also a screen over the heater opening and screen material inside the fridge vents to keep out the mud daubers.

since the trailer is in the building process I splurged and had them put in the stereo, it's just a cheap single DIN car stereo with two speakers in the cieling but for the price not having to mess with the wiring is all bonus , I'll just install a nicer radio where they already have the power lines and speaker lines then upgrade the speakers .

and bam one project just got a lot easier

Yup, the speakers sound pretty tinny but it's convenient to have it.  The unit runs off the battery which is nice.

Welcome Sean…….I'm sure you will enjoy your camper and have many wonderful adventures in it.  I'm sure your wish list is already growing.  Use it a few times and then you will know better exactly what you want to do to make it better and make it your own.

Have Fun!
