Julie…I have never camped at cherokee dam but ive driven thru it a bunch of times on my way to another campground. Everytime I drove thru there it was always full, course that was on the weekends. The sites seemed closer together than most other TVA campgrounds, with little shade. There were a few spots over looking the lake but not direct access to the lake from your campsite. On one side of the campground there is a huge parking lot with a very large boatramp that the boaters use for alot of tournament fishing. Along side that there is a roped off swimming area with a beach.I didnt stop to check out the restroom/shower facilities. There seemed to be alot of families with children camping there. I never concidered camping there because I prefer campgounds where I have availability to the water from my site. I dont know if your familiar with the local TVA campsites around there but there is one in morristown down the road called panther creek that is very nice, especially for family get togethers. Its not lake access or lake views from the campground but the lake /access is a very short drive from the campground. Panther creek provides alot of shade, spacious sites spaced nicely and pavillions for picnics and tons of hiking/walking trails along creeks. The wildlife at panther creek is always deer grazing in the pastures surrounding the park. I 've camped there twice and really enjoyed it and the facilities were well cept and clean. There are one or two other TVA campgrounds in the vacinity such as douglas dam that are my favorites too. Just give me a holler if you need anymore information and enjoy your trip
