I've been unable to post to the forum in any way for the past few days. I finally figured out that the problem arose after I downloaded the new Internet Explorer version 9. Perhaps an incompatibility between this forum's website and IE9? Just wanted to caution everyone about this.
I'm using an old laptop to post this. From my usual computer I'm unable to post to topics, start new topics or even PM the moderator! I haven't decided what to do with it.

Update: I uninstalled the IE9 update and got it back to IE8. All is well again.

I'm on IE9 and able to post. You need to use the compatibiliy option to do so.

Hm, that's interesting to hear it's working for you. I thought I did select compatibliity mode, but hard to be 100% sure now… too many things have happened in 5 days. Ok, maybe it was isolated to my situation.

I gave up using MS WINDOWS and Internet Explorer two years ago. Too many issues for me. I went to APPLE MAC and using SAFARI for Internet.
No issues so far … two years and counting

I don't use IE any more except at work, but use all of them at the office. Out of them all I have to say that .. Google chrome has been the best. Very light and the fastest.

I'll second that…WAY too many issues and problems with Microshaft. I switched to an iMac about 5 years ago and recently bought another MacBook. Never had ANY problems with either one. My 5 year old iMac runs like brand new after a minor RAM upgrade and an update from Mac OS 10.4.11 to 10.6.7 – can't say I had ever owned a Windows computer that wasn't outdated in a year. Another bonus is not getting viruses, etc that plague Windows. I don't personally care too much for Safari, so I use Firefox.

Macbooks are always outdated in a year or less too. They're no different than any PC based laptop out there. They are reliable and I would recommend it to my mother and father to use. In fact, I have because I tired of having tp provide support for them when they had a PC. Now I just make them go to the Apple store to get help.
That being said, Macs are unrealistically overpriced for what they offer. This was even after they switched to the Intel processesor, and converted the Mac OS to be Unix based. If you want the same reliability for a fraction of the cost. Buy an Intel laptop and install Ubuntu linux on it. You'll save a fortune. Now if you can afford a Mac without losing any sleep. Yes! Get one.
Now as far as virus' go, they are written for every platform. Windows has market share which is why they get hit more often, but now that Macs are catching up … I've seen as many Macs get owned by a virus as I've seen PCs. If virus safety is your top criteria for what system you choose to buy … (again) go with Linux as I've seen far less Linux boxes take a hit than Macs over the last decade.
If you're needs are fairly basic like web browsing, email, pictures, apps, and you're on a tight budget. The new Chromebook comes out June 15th and the base model is $429. I've been following the progress of this since they announced it a few years back. They really dug in and simplified the ease of use while giving you an unprecedented amount of redundancy by tying this in with cloud computing. This is what's up next for the parents since their Mac is ready to be taken out and shot. Yes, I have plans to buy one. No, I don't work for google.
Here's a link that offers more details.

That all being said. If you use a very specific app for whatever reason, then you're obviously going to have to go with whatever platform supports said app(s).
