Hey all,

I am leaving for a 2 week jaunt up to Newport, RI from Arkansas, likely taking 40 west to 81, leaving the 2nd week in Sept. I wanted to get some feedback on campgrounds on that route that are good for overnights. I plan to take my time coming and going and spend a few days in the Newport area, maybe meander the Blue Ridge Parkway coming back. Hope the leaves will cooperate!

I took the new Escape for the maiden voyage to Petit Jean State Park this past weekend and loved it! Nice campground and $18 for W/E nestled in tall pines, picnic table, firepit and very quiet as school was starting the following day. Staff was very helpful with assisiting me with finding a level site. Should probably post this in the related thread, but something tells me it will get read. Smile

Trailer pulled great behing the Tacoma, but I could definitely tell it was there. Everything functioned perfectly, and slept great, enjoying a mild cool front dropping off into mid-60's at night. Rare for Arkansas in August!

Hey there. We were in Mountain View this past weekend & the weather was great. Not what I am used to in August for certain.  Anyone reading this post should not miss Petit Jean SP if close by.

Off I40 in east Nashville is a good spot if you need an overnight called Two Rivers Campground. There is also a Camping World right next door.

Have a good trip.

Love the Shenandoah valley going that way.  knoxville tn on the other hand, well lets say the people there are the nicest around becauause they take all their frustrations out on the road! but you will have gone through memphis and nashville by then so maybe it wont be so bad. ( (tennessee and texas have a lot in common going that way, it takes a while to get through)   be safe.Wink

there is a corp of engineers site about 4 miles off I-40  mile marker 268 that i would recomend heres the link http://www.reserveamerica.com/…..rkId=71272

egar evins state park is on the same exit but i did not think much of it.
