Great post!

Some other random ideas:

To save weight on the return trip back home, empty the fresh water tank.  I found an easier/faster way than being upside down on the far end of the of the bench seat trying to open the small drain valve, though.  I open the drain valve under the trailer, then turn on the water pump.  Quick and easy!  The hot water tank can also be drained by removing the anode rod (with a wrench) to decrease a little more weight, with a little bit of effort.

We struggled to find a good spot for garbage container that was out of the way yet still useful until I put ours (like this) in front of the fuse box.  When just one section of the container is put together, it's short enough that the cupboard door above the fuse box clears it, and it's not in the way of the bathroom door much at all.  It's especially functional for me since it's in the kitchen area.

Speaking of kitchen, but maybe a little off topic – I had a heckuva time finding a sink strainer.  I happened to find a tea ball at WalMart for something close to $1 that fits in the sink perfectly.  Maybe some RV shops have something better, but I'd bet it wouldn't be as thrifty. Wink

For a freezer space saving tip – I cut our ice cube tray in half (picture here), but I cut it so one half can still be stacked on the other, or one half can not be used at all if it's not needed.

Happy Camping!

• Include in your family's first aid kit, items suitable to tend to your pet if needed!  Vet wrap, tweezers for removing ticks, antiseptics to treat cuts, and any of your dog's prescribed medications.

Buddy wishes you happy camping!

Great advice.

I would recommend benedryl be added to the first aid kit. Lucy, our 5 mo. old lab mix, decided a bee would be a good snack while we we playing miniature golf on the 4th. Her face swelled until she looked like a Chow. We were 300 miles away from home but able to call our local vet emergancy line and get treatment advice and dosages.  My wife packs a small pharmacy so we were covered.

Very cute dog Carol. Ooops, I mean Kayaknut.

Walmart had a nice small trash container that fits right between the toilet and the wall in my 14RB.  It can't go anywhere and is held in place nicely.  And plastic shopping bags fit just right in this container, with the bag's carry handles going over either end of the container.

I use plastic grocery sacks for both the dogs and for trash can liners.  I have a bathroom sized trash can that fits under the sink in the kitchen.  Part of our dog walking activities usually involves a trip to the dumpster.

I do carry stuff in the back of the truck, but I have a tonneau cover so I can do so easily and safely.  I store the dog food, any spare fire starters, the gas grill/stove and the propane bottle for them, with the propane bottle bungeed in place so that it does not travel.  I also keep 2-3 collapsible chairs.  And if we can cook with charcoal – which has not been the case much this year in TX, I carry charcoal and the dutch ovens in the truck.  I also have a collapsible step stool so that I can reach over the side of the truck bed and reach stuff.

As a newbie, I appreciate all the tips and especially the pictures.  I've been getting our trailer ready for a two day trip later this week - our very first.

Re-reading your post, Kayknut, and you were talking about not being able to find a strainer to fit the sink drain.  I found one at Wal-Mart in the housegoods section – on the same aisle with the bathroom fixtures stuff.
