I’m sure that I have mentioned at one time or another that I am a traveller as opposed to a destination type person. My dream for retirement was to travel as much of North America as possible … exploring all the back roads and country roads that I can find and document my trips with my passion for photography.
If the past is any indication it would not be unusual for me to travel 20, 30 or more miles down some road only to wind up at a dead end in a field or at the ocean … and then have to figure out how to turn around.
Towing the trailer during the past few months has made me realize that this is NOT the way I want to travel. I feel somewhat restricted on the places I can go, unless I unhook and leave the trailer somewhere … and then that presents the problem as to "where" do I leave it??
So … what to do? During the past few months I have been exploring the idea of acquiring a motorhome. I found a number that I really like … one in particular really caught my eye. Problem was it was too large for me to accomplish my travel goals … worse than the trailer really.
It seem that everything came full circle for me. Seven to eight years ago I remember looking at the Class B motorhome on the Mercedes/Sprinter chassis. I liked it but thought it was a bit pricy for the size. Well … low and behold here I am looking at them again. This time the 2012 Winnebago ERA.
I took one for a test drive the other day … fell in love with it … the dealer agreed to take my van and trailer on trade … and there you have it.
I am now the proud owner of the 2012 Winnebago ERA.
When I joined this site … well quite frankly I didn’t have a clue what was what. I would read posts and just scratch my head in total bewilderment. Slowly I began to read more and more and with the patience of you all here on the Sportsman Classic (and Spree Escape) Owners Club I actually began to understand. Got some great tips and ideas.
I hope you don’t mind but I would like to "hang around" for a bit and do some lurking every once in awhile. I’m sure that there is a lot of information that can be shared and is applicable to either the trailer or a motorhome.
I am spending today cleaning out the trailer and removing the semi permanent bed and replacing the dinette table and cushions which are still brand new.
If you happen to see a Winnebago ERA with Ontario plates … don’t be shy … toot the horn, wave … or say hello.
Thanks for everything … you have made the transition from trailer to motorhome a breeze for me.

Below is a picture of the actual unit I purchased. I pick it up in Wednesday morning.
