I am considering bying the classic 14 rb. I own a 2001 chevy venture without the towing package. I beleive if i install all the items for towing, it would boost my towing capacity from 2000 to 3500 lbs. Has anyone ever towed the classiv 14rb with a similar van with a 3.4 / 6 cylinder engine. I think it has about 190 hp. Would appreciate some feedback.

I'm using a Dodge Dakota with a 3.7L V6 to tow my 14RB. Added a class III hitch and electric brake controller to make it tow ready. The V6 handles the load fine but you can definitely tell it's back there when climbing some of the steep hills we have here. We looked a lot before buying and I'm sure you won't find a lighter trailer that is better outfitted then the 14RB!
Also, when towing you should lock the tranny out of overdrive to prevent excessive shifting which could overheat and damage the transmission.

Thanks for your input Mark. When you say lock out the overdrive, I guess I just have to keep it out of overdrive. Norm D

Hi, Norm!
Yes, best to keep it out of overdrive. Best to have transmission cooler installed, as well. Xmission coolers are not very expensive, while xmission rebuilds are. I'd check with your local Chevrolet dealer parts department for towing capacity confirmation.
