My wife and I have found a local dealer that is outstanding and sells the KZ camper trailers. We really like the Sportsman Classic 16BH and are looking to put in an offer for it. Of course, I would like to get the best deal possible while also giving the salesman, dealership, and manufacturer a respectable piece of the pie. He is asking $10,999 for the trailer. I was just wondering what most people in here usually end up paying or what they think these trailers might be worth. I could see paying in the neighborhood of $8,000—$9,000 and that's about it before I would just bump up the to the next tier of trailer and pay a little more. The model has the standard package with a front window option. Thanks

***UPDATE*** My apologies, I was using the numbers of another trailer we had been looking at. The trailer is a 2011 Sportsman Classic 16BH that he shows the MSRP being $11,300 and his sale price is $9,999. I was thinking since it's a leftover of last year and if I buy at the end of the month that an offer of about $8,500 would seem fair and we would be comfortable paying that for the trailer. Does that sound about right or am I little too much or too little on my offer. Thanks

I don't know where you're from, but here is an ad from a Connecticut dealer:
http://www.allrv.net/pdf/trail…..-green.pdf
I actually used this ad in negotiations with my dealer here in MA. I looked all over the internet, and found that prices ranged widely depending on how dealers advertise their prices. Be wary of dealers that post base model suggested retails as the price, because you'll likely find that the trailer they're selling has many options and the actual price is much higher. I don't think that base models actually exist in the real world, and with KZ's I found that most come with what they call the "full package", meaning gas everything. When you're buying new it's the little things that add up, whereas buying used you have a better chance of telling the seller to take it or leave it.
All that said, what's most important is that you're happy with the purchase. I'd recommend negotiating your best deal, then not looking or talking about it afterward. Just enjoy it.

Thanks Mike, I'm from Idaho. I tried to introduce myself in the other forum but apparently I messed that up somehow and it didn't work out. Anyway, that's a very interesting idea using an ad in negotiations, and you're right, from what I've researched there is quite the variance in asking price on them. I was just hoping, since I'm sure there are many owners of these models here, that I could get some idea of average for what these little guys are going for in the real world. I read a post of how a member paid just $7100 not too long ago for the same basic model. If many of these are selling more in that range (similarly equiped), I'd have much more confidence throwing my initial offer out there without insulting the guy or looking like a fool! I know I won't pay over $8500 for it, but I'd like to wrap it up with tax and all for no more than that if possible! But even if I wind up paying that, I would certainly heed your advice and not look back.
I'm learning about RV's as fast as I can, but I have much to learn still and have certainly never negotiated one. Also, after you mentioned the "Full Package" I looked into it a little further and found out the trailer we're looking at does have the full package with a spare tire and carrier, stabilizer jacks, and front window. Thanks for clearing that up, the ad led me to believe it was standard.

I don't think you could go wrong at $8,500 "out the door" as they say, and where it's a leftover you've got a little leverage. Look all over the place on the internet to get an idea of what's out there. I did and found that if I ignored the lowball "bait" ads and the highball starting point ads, I was able to determine an average selling price to work from. Forget NADA. The only value they show is base model suggested retail, which is much less than units equipped with options. Another consideration is location. In my case I'd have to drive at least two hours to find another dealer that sells KZ's, so taking that into account I was willing to accept a slightly higher price than the competition if necessary. It wasn't. I paid $11,600 for a 2012 190 with full package, 8,000btu ac, 2 extra jacks and front window. I originally went in looking at the 170, which they had two of, but they couldn't sell it to me for less than the only 190 on the lot. The dealer said something about a manufacturer incentive, and now I've got the walk-around queen bed instead of the crawl-over-me-in-the-night version.

PS – It would be nice if more people chimed in and we started to establish a base for people to work from as they negotiate for their own KZ's. Unlike when we're shopping for cars, it's hard to find honest data on RV values. In my research I saw figures ranging from $10,000 – $15,000 (I'm not kidding) for the 190, but ultimately found that the average retail asking price for a well equipped unit was about $13,200.

Yeah, I actually found a 2011 Sportsmen Classic 16BH for an asking price of $16,500 and as low as $8,400! Anyways, I plan on negotiating a price in a couple weeks when I get free from work and I'll make sure to post what deal he settles for.

I bought my 2010 in September 2010 and paid 8995 for it. Mine doesn't have the front window but it did have the 5000 BTU A/C, the awning, spare tire, and I'm trying to remember what else was considered an option.
