Jack I am towing with a nissan 4 cyl 4x which I plan to replace this comming year. I was looking at the new frontiers since a friend of mine has one and is very happy with his. Here is what he said about his rig when someone asked:
"I don't remember all the figures.. but I pretty much have decided a fgood rule of thumb would be to keep your UVW (unloaded veh weight) for the camper.. under the trucks tow rating by about 1500 pounds.. more is better. My truck is rated to tow 6100 pounds.. my camper weighs a little under 3000 lbs empty. I figure I have about 300-500 pounds worth of junk in it. So that gives me more than 1500 lbs to play with. I probably wouldnt pull a camper weighing much more than 3500 lbs with my Nissan "_________________

I know the frontiers have a "tow mode" and are wired for trailering with the tow package.
The pathfinders I believe are built on the truck platform, however dont have a tow package but you can get them with a hitch on them but no electrical wiring standard or tow package. Im really not clear on what the pathfinder is rated at…same as the frontier?
I havent looked into the xterra yet . I know the xterra is a more bare bones model of the pathfinder, comfort wise and Im really looking for something more comfortable to drive than another truck when I purchase again. Thats why I was looking into the pathfinder. Not sure how the ride would compare from pathfinder to crew cab frontier. Edmunds is a good place to research what reviewers say about the good and bad about a particular model/year.
Let me know what you find out or decide on because Im torn on what to get that will give me enough towing capacity and comfort.Whatever I decide to buy I will have a transmission cooler put on too.
