I am interested in various points of view on the pros and cons of both type of brakes. I have always had electric brakes on my RV's. Also, I know that surge brakes are an option on the Sportsmen Classic but can anyone tell me the difference in cost in surge and electric. I would imagine the saving in the cost of brake controllers and wiring would help to offset the additional cost of the option.
Thanks for your thoughts,
Ken

Welcome, RC to our forum.
A friend has surge brakes on his Lund 17' bass boat trailer and has not experienced any problems thus far in the past three years. Years ago surge brakes got a rotten reputation……that I've heard.

Hi John,
Thanks for your reply. I have owned most every type RV but none have ever had surge brakes. I know that surge brakes are an option on the "Classics" but didn't know which way to go. I guess I should stick with I know and go with the electrics.
Thanks again, John.

Ken, I think electric is a good bet. A couple years ago we took a series of horsemanship classes, of which horse trailers were discussed…..the general concensus was that surge brakes were horrible, stemming from their reputation from years before. Perhaps, some are much improved, based on my friend's boat trailer experience.
