Electric brakes are standard, surge brakes, optional.

OK … from what I am reading electric brakes are preferable over the surge brake option. What kind of brake module/controller would be the best to have to control the trailer brakes.
Julie … I see you have mentioned a proportional brake controller??? I gather that you are recommending this type of system??
Once again … I want to thank everyone for sharing their experience and information as I work toward getting this all sorted out.
Thanks
Karsty

The dealer installed an electric brake controller system into my truck for me. They didn't offer a choice on brands so I'm assuming one brand is as good as the next here. The one installed works very well and makes slowing down/stopping with this rig so much easier.
Having said that I'd also like to hear any opinions to the contrary.
*Edit*
I should have looked this up first, but prefer having electric brakes over surge now that I know this … http://www.ehow.com/how-does_4…..-work.html

I ordered my 16BH with surge brakes because I really didnt have any real experience with the electric brakes. We towed it 7300 miles on vacation, thru the mountains and every where else and I cannot complain about the braking performance one bit. The only thing you need to remember with surge is that you need to deactivate them when backing the trailer up, there is a small knob that you move to lock the master cylinder so the brakes dont activate. This can sometimes be a pain but you get the hang of it. I will take surge brakes over electric any day. Easier to work on also when the time comes. Mitch.

We have the Tekonsha Prodigy controller. DBF is an offroad group where a bunch of them pull their Jeeps on trailers. That was the hands on favorite so it's what we went with.
